Sacha Glastra van Loon (1987) was born and raised in Amsterdam. Photography is a skill he learned at an early age. After high school he studied International Business & Management Studies and Social Geography for a couple of years, while working in several part-time jobs.
In November 2014, he obtained his BA in Cinematography from the MET Film School at the University of West London, after a two-year full-time study.
Since then he has worked as a freelance cinematographer, gaffer, and focus puller in the Dutch film industry and internationally. Over the years, his experience has grown from intimate indie sets all the way to large-scale cinema productions, commercials, and an American Netflix show — each one deepening his understanding of what truly great images require. Having learned from both small and large productions, he knows first-hand what it takes, and brings that knowledge directly into his own film work.
He firmly believes that the tool is never what matters most. Any camera can capture a memorable image — what counts is how you light a shot, how you compose it, and what you choose to say with it. Working as a gaffer and lighting technician has made him a far better cinematographer, because light is the real language of cinema.
Next to his work as a filmmaker, he has found a love for teaching younger students the art of cinematography, showing them how to tell powerful stories through the medium of film.

Sacha Glastra van Loon (1987) is geboren en opgegroeid in Amsterdam. Fotografie is een vaardigheid die hij op jonge leeftijd leerde. Na de middelbare school studeerde hij International Business & Management Studies en Sociale Geografie, terwijl hij meerdere parttime banen had.
In november 2014 behaalde hij zijn Bachelor Cinematografie aan de MET Film School van de University of West London, na een tweejarige voltijdse studie.
Sindsdien werkt hij als freelance cameraman, gaffer en focus puller in de Nederlandse filmindustrie en internationaal. Door de jaren heen groeide zijn ervaring van kleine indie-sets naar grootschalige bioscoopproducties, reclamefilms en een Amerikaanse Netflix-serie — elke productie verdiepte zijn begrip van wat werkelijk goede beelden vereisen. Van kleine naar grote sets heeft hij meegemaakt wat het vak vraagt, en vertaalt hij die kennis direct naar zijn eigen filmopnames.
Hij gelooft dat het gereedschap nooit het belangrijkste is. Elke camera kan een gedenkwaardig beeld vastleggen — het gaat erom hoe je een shot belicht, hoe je het componeert, en wat je ermee wilt zeggen. Werken als gaffer en lichttechnicus heeft hem een veel betere cameraman gemaakt, want licht is de echte taal van cinema.
Naast zijn werk als filmmaker heeft hij een passie gevonden voor het lesgeven aan jongere studenten in de kunst van de cinematografie — en laat hen zien hoe je krachtige verhalen vertelt via het medium film.

I offer hands-on workshops and one-to-one sessions designed to demystify lighting for camera work, whether you're a beginner picking up a camera for the first time or an experienced shooter ready to take your images to the next level.
